Signals 4 Vets
Signals 4 Vets is a veteran peer-to-peer program where veterans go metal detecting together. It helps people relax, clear their minds, and spend time outdoors. As they search and listen for signals, they stay focused and, in the moment, which can help reduce stress. There’s also something exciting about not knowing what’s in the ground—every signal could be a hidden piece of history or a small treasure, and that feeling keeps people engaged and coming back to the program. It gives veterans a sense of purpose, like a mission, with clear goals and small wins along the way. Most importantly, it brings veterans together giving them a chance to talk, share stories, and support each other.
Homeward Bound Adirondacks is looking for North Country property owners who have land with a story to tell—such as historic homes, old farmsteads or homesteads, cellar holes, or other places with a past or interesting history. We’re inviting you to consider allowing a small group (4) of veterans to visit your property as part of our ‘Signals 4 Vets’ program. These guided metal detecting outings are respectful, low-impact, and focused on wellness, history, and connection. Our team is a fully insured, not-for-profit organization, staffed with trained outdoor guides and mental health professionals to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone involved. If you have a piece of land, you’d be willing to share, you can help provide veterans with a meaningful and rewarding opportunity to heal, connect, and discover the past.”
If you’d be willing to share your property—or just want to learn more—we’d love to hear from you! Please send us an email with a description and/or photos to: Signals4Vets@hbadk.org
Support the Mission
In addition, Homeward Bound Adirondacks is currently seeking donations of new or gently used metal detecting equipment, including detectors, pin-pointers, hand trowels, hip bags, and related gear. Your support helps us expand opportunities for veterans to participate and benefit from this program.
