There’s a widespread belief that our Nature Retreats are tailored only for younger veterans or those capable of engaging in physically demanding activities like hiking, snowshoeing, and kayaking. We want to clarify that this is a misconception. At Homeward Bound Adirondacks, we strive to create an inclusive and safe environment that caters to veterans of all ages and abilities. While it’s true that our retreats offer adventurous outdoor activities for those interested and physically able, we also provide a variety of both lighter outdoor and indoor activities. These include nature therapy, sensory exploration, yoga, sound therapy, and team-based exercises and games. These options are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for veterans who may have mobility issues, are of advanced age, or those who simply have different interests.
The core purpose of our retreats is to harness the therapeutic powers of nature combined with peer-to-peer interactions not just for healing, but also to build camaraderie and community among veterans. Our goal is to ensure that every veteran has the opportunity to find relaxation, connection, and support in a nurturing environment, regardless of their physical capability or interests.
Join us as we continue to provide these enriching experiences, fostering a sense of community and support among all who attend.
